Grinnell Regional Community Care Clinic

Grinnell Regional Community Care Clinic provides those who have a low income and are uninsured with access to medical care.

Healthcare services that are provided at the community care clinic are:

  • Physical exams, including school and work physicals.
  • Exams for acute conditions, such as colds, sore throats, flu, and ear infections.
  • Maintenance for chronic diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • Laboratory services necessary for diagnosis.
  • Referrals to social services and other healthcare facilities.
  • Additional medical care as available.

Community care clinic staff also provide patients with access to other resources, such as:

  • Medication assistance.
  • Medicaid (Department of Human Services).
  • hawk-i, which provides healthcare coverage for Iowa children in families with limited incomes.
  • Referrals to Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) for energy assistance, which helps eligible low- income households meet their home heating and/or cooling needs.
  • Referrals to the local food bank.
  • SHARE Program, a community service and food program.
  • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which safeguards the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age of five who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to healthcare.

Eligibility
You qualify to use the community care clinic if you:

  • do not have health insurance
  • are low income.

Please bring your federal tax return, W2, and most recent pay stub as it is needed to apply for medication assistance.

Interpreter Service
A Spanish interpreter is available if needed. Other language translations are available electronically.

The community care clinic tries to not duplicate services already available in the community:

  • Child immunizations and well-child exams will be referred to GRMC’s Mother-Child Wellness Program.
  • Gynecological exams, pregnancy testing, breast exams, diagnosis and treatment of vaginal infections, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases will be referred to Central Family Planning, Inc., in Grinnell.
  • Referrals to Poweshiek County Mental Health Center will be made for counseling and treatment.

The community care clinic provides medical care for those who do not have access to health care providers due to financial reasons. The clinic is committed to patient’s rights, including the right to receive medical treatment without moral or social judgment and the right to privacy and confidentiality.

Patients who use the clinic will benefit from the clinic’s association to Grinnell Regional Medical Center. The community care clinic is staffed with volunteer physicians from GRMC’s medical staff. Nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and clerical workers are GRMC employees who also assist patients at the clinic.
