Total Family Care
The birth of your baby will be a magical moment. As expectant parents, you want a nurturing atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and the comforts of home as you deliver your little miracle.
At GRMC, labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) care are now available in one beautiful, functional room for mothers comfort and family involvement.
In the tradition of the patient focused care that GRMC is known for, the new Kintzinger Womens Health Center has brought the LDRP concept to our area. That means that through each step of the birthing processlabor, delivery, recovery, and postpartumthe mother remains in the same room.
And its a wonderful room, both in terms of its homelike atmosphere as well as its high-tech medical equipment for childbirth.
Each spacious room is beautifully designed with:
- Warm cherry furniture.
- Laminated wood floors.
- Attractive artwork.
- Adjustable lighting and temperature.
- Large windows.
- A rocking chair.
- Remote controlled television and VCR.
The rooms are also equipped with a convertible sleep chair to allow a husband, grandparent, or friend to stay overnight comfortably.
While these rooms will make you feel at home, all the medical equipment and technology needed to ensure a smooth, healthy delivery is built right into the beautiful cabinetry to be immediately available when needed. The beds convert into a birthing bed during labor and after converts back into a normal bed. Behind the beds headboard is the necessary equipment for mom during delivery and all of the equipment needed for the baby is hidden behind artwork that slides up and away when the equipment is being used.
After the birth, new mothers may choose to have their babies stay in the room with them, with GRMC nurses on hand as needed. The mother may also ask, at any time, that the baby be cared for in the nursery.
More Features: Comfort and Security
Mothers requiring or desiring a cesarean delivery will have the procedure performed in the GRMC surgical suites, just down the hall from the Kintzinger Womens Health Center. The womens health center features four regular private rooms for families not requiring a birthing suite.
The whirlpool bath in the Kintzinger Womens Health Center is a must for all expecting mothers. Just a few minutes in the whirlpool can help ease back pain, which frequently occurs during labor.
The new nurse call system in the womens health center allows for better communication between the nurses and mother. And were proud of our Code Alert Program, a security system to prevent infant abduction. Our nurses place a security band on the baby at birth. If the band is cut off or removed, an alarm goes off. The doors to the womens health center lock when the baby is six feet away from the doors and an alarm sounds.
Another security bonus, is that our nursery, which features a stars and moon theme, is located next to the nurses station.
Also near the nurses station is a nutrition center, where family members can find healthy snacks and drinks while waiting for your little miracle to make his or her appearance.
Our Obstetric Nurses
Nearly 20 nurses and OB technicians staff the Kintzinger Womens Health Center. They have advanced training and certification in neonatal resuscitation, breastfeeding education, and more. A care coordinator provides home visits to all new parents and newborns through our Before Baby and Beyond Program. Our nurses also provide prenatal and childbirth classes.

The Kintzinger Womens Health Center was made possible by a gift from John and Jewel Kintzinger.
"I liked staying
in the same room
for my labor and
recovery, says
Deanna Fry, who
delivered her first
child, Dylan, in an
LDRP room at
GRMC. What I
liked most about
my stay was that
within five minutes
of our son being
born, our room
was transformed
back into a normal
room. This allowed
us to have private
family time."
