What is the Mother-Child Wellness Program?
The Iowa Department of Public Health has provided a grant to the Mother-Child Wellness Program at Grinnell Regional Medical Center to provide health care services to families. The goal of this program is to promote good health for all women, infants, and children in Jasper, Mahaska, and Poweshiek Counties. Maternal Health services provide prenatal, postpartum, and other services to pregnant women. Child Health services are available to ensure that every child receives services needed to support ideal growth and development.

Who is eligible for these services and at what cost?
Women of childbearing age, or children under the age of 21 years of age living in the three county area can use these services. Charges for services are based on federal poverty guidelines. Families whose income is below 200% of guidelines receive services at no charge and also qualify for assistance in covering the cost of other medical and dental care. Families with incomes over 200% are charged using a sliding fee scale. If you have questions about whether your family qualifies for services at reduced or no charge, please call or write us and we will be happy to determine fees, if any, that you will have.

What is the Child Health Program?
Child Health is a well-child care program available to children from birth to age 21. It is intended to help families pay for physical exams and dental care. The program targets families who are waiting for Medicaid (Title XIX) or hawk-i benefits to begin. Families who have health or dental insurance with a high deductible or that do not pay for well check-ups may also use it. Children can have their physical exam and dental care paid, as well as receive vouchers for appointments to the doctor when they are sick. A nurse works with families who need help finding a doctor or dentist. The services of a dietitian and social worker are available by appointment at no charge to children on this program. Please see the events calender for the Child Health clinic schedule.

What are Maternal Health Services?
Maternal Health Care services are available to pregnant women in the three counties. Services include help in finding financial assistance, prenatal risk assessment, coordination of pregnancy care, and help in arranging for delivery, if needed. Also included are health education, nutrition counseling, dental evaluation, social assessment, and guidance. Home visits after delivery and referrals for family planning and child health care are also provided. Please see the events calender for the Maternal Health clinic schedule.
