Todd C. Linden, President and CEO (since 1994)
Todd Linden is president and CEO of Grinnell Regional Medical Center, an 81 bed, private non-profit hospital in Grinnell, Iowa. Linden received his master of arts degree in health administration and a bachelor of arts degree, both from the University of Iowa. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
During his tenure, Grinnell Regional has tripled its medical staff to more than 50 physicians and mid-level providers; created a fitness and rehab center; added a 36,000 square foot medical office building; developed an integrated medicine program; constructed a three-million dollar rural medical mall in an adjacent county; built three new community outreach clinics; and is currently implementing a $40 million (almost tripling the value of the hospital assets) comprehensive facilities master plan (including a $ four million (1988) and an $eight million (2003) community capital campaign).
Since coming to Grinnell in 1994, Linden has been recognized for his leadership by the Des Moines Register, the Iowa Hospital Association, the Iowa Jaycee’s, Modern Healthcare Magazine, the Grinnell Business Women’s Association, the Healthcare Forum, the American Hospital Association, the University of Iowa, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
He has had the opportunity to testify in the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and a special teleconference with the President of the United States on health care issues.
Linden served on the American Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees from 2000 to 2005. He currently serves on the board of advisors to AHA’s Center for Healthcare Governance; is past-chair of both the Iowa Hospital Association and Health Enterprises of Iowa; serves on the Grinnell College board of trustees, the University of Iowa College of Public Health advisory board and past board member for the Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa and Des Moines University.
He has been active at the state level through appointments made by Iowa’s Governor, including chair of the Iowa Telemedicine Advisory Council, member of the 461 Task Force (legislative study group of the Iowa Communication Network) and member of IowACCESS (intergovernmental technology committee). Locally, Linden serves or has served on the boards of: Poweshiek Iowa Development, the Waterford Group, Grinnell Renaissance (past-chair) and the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation.

Suzanne L. Cooner, Vice-President of Operations
Suzanne Cooner, RN, MS, is currently the vice-president of operations at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. She has more than 24 years of experience in the healthcare field primarily in hospital administration with a specific focus in the areas of service quality, leadership development, grant writing, and program development. Before coming to Grinnell, Cooner was the CEO of Devereux Hospital and Neurobehavioral Institute in Houston, Texas.
Cooner has served on the board of directors for the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce. She also serves as the project director for the international "Well Communities" project.
A native of Conesville, Iowa, Cooner is married to Russell and they have one adult daughter.

David C. Cranston, MD, Vice-President of Medical Staff Affairs
Dr. David Cranston joined the GRMC medical staff upon moving to Grinnell in 1997. He was named to the vice-president position in December 2001 in response to the growth experienced at GRMC in the medical staff, employees, and services provided. GRMC took advantage of Cranston’s full-time employee status and his leadership to proactively position the administrative department to allow for greater physician input and improved communication with the medical staff.
Cranston came to Grinnell after being in private practice for 16 years in Elkader, Iowa. He received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University with a bachelor of science in zoology. He received his medical degree and completed his residency in family practice at the University of Iowa. Cranston completed a continuing education course in medical acupuncture through U.C.L.A. in 1999 and provides medical acupuncture through the GRMC integrated medicine program at Postels Community Health Park.
Cranston and his wife, Linda, have two adult daughters.

Jack Fritts, CPA, MS, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President
Jack Fritts is the vice-president of finance and chief financial officer for GRMC. Fritts oversees the organization’s financial services including patient accounting, business operations, and purchasing.
From 2001 to 2009, Fritts served as GRMC’s controller. Fritts’ experience in healthcare finance includes St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, and Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, in addition to his experience at GRMC.
In addition to his professional work, Fritts has served as adjunct faculty at Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids; College of St. Francis, Joliet, Ill.; and the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. |

David L. Ness, Vice-President of Operations
David L. Ness is currently the vice-president of operations. He earned a degree in accounting and began his career as a hospital CFO. He later changed his focus to administration and received a credential of advanced studies in health services administration from the University of Minnesota. He served as CEO in two rural Iowa hospitals prior to joining the Grinnell Regional Medical Center staff as assistant administrator in 1986.
Ness is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is active in the Grinnell community with the chamber of commerce ambassadors and he serves on the board of directors of numerous organizations.

Doris J. Rindels, Assistant Vice-President
Doris Rindels, RN, oversees day-to-day operations for inpatient and outpatient areas. Doris has been providing healthcare services to Poweshiek County since 1977, first as a nurse in the Wiltfang-Paulson clinic. She joined GRMC full-time in 1990 as a nurse in the emergency department. Since then she has filled other roles, including nursing supervisor and director of nursing. In 2005, she became an assistant vice-president.
Rindels earned a bachelor’s degree in management of healthcare services from Ottawa University in Overland Park, Kan., and a nursing diploma from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She volunteers with the Montezuma Fire and Ambulance, represents the hospital on the Poweshiek County EMS association, and serves as a member of the Iowa Organization for Nurse Leaders. Rindels also serves on the advisory boards for nursing programs at Iowa Valley Community College and Indian Hills Community College.
